On a sunny February morning I had the job of photographing interiors and exteriors of a care home in Crowborough, East Sussex for use on their new website. There is always a lot more involved in photographing interiors than just going in with a camera and snapping away. You have to look at the details of the scene – spotting ornaments that may be distracting, creases in textiles, even down to how fruit is arranged in a bowl. In a prepared room this can be tricky enough, but in an actual residents room, you have to have to be sensitive to their privacy while making the room suitable for a photograph.
With the exterior, I took a few shots of the building to show what could be done. However, it was a little late in the morning to get the best light on the front of the building and we had only had snow the day before, so a little bit was still lingering somewhere between being snow covered and thawed. I showed the shots to the client who chose the particular angles she liked and I returned much earlier another morning to get the final shots of the building against a glorious blue sky.
My proof galleries currently have no expiry date, so my clients can return again and again to order additional shots as required. This worked a treat as the client purchased an initial set of files and returned to purchase images on two other occasions. I love the flexibility that this affords my clients, but also excitement this gives me seeing that new images have been ordered long after the shoot is over.
