Sunset Shoot with Mae

I had a shoot with Mae in the outskirts of Forest Row a couple of weeks ago. I spend a lot of time using flash lighting in the studio so it was really refreshing to get out into the countryside and use the natural golden light of sunset and a reflector to capture some really atmospheric images.

Mae had approached me about the shoot a couple of months prior. We had decided to go for an endless summer sort of look with some very washed out shots shooting straight into the sun. We just had to wait for the right evening to do it.

When the day came, it was a gorgeous, balmy evening without a cloud in the sky. We started at 7.30pm when the light was getting low and got some great shots of Mae in a colourful summer dress which worked really well. We progressed to a cream outfit, then to a green outfit at which point, the images became very cinematic.

Finally as the sun was getting really low, Mae changed into a black top and jeans for the final set of images where the sun was shining right down the lens and gave some great natural lens flare effects. By 9pm the sun had gotten too low to continue so we ‘wrapped’ in the knowledge that I had gotten the shots I wanted.

A shoot like this tends to provide a selection of 80 shots for the client to choose from and they’re the sort of shots that just can’t be replicated in the studio making them totally unique.

Mae loved the shots and went for a whole disc of HiRes files.
