Location Portrait Photography

Advantages of Location
Whether it’s the fresh greens and dappled sunlight of the coming Spring, the golden sunset of mid summer, the rich colours of autumn’s arrival, the textures of old stonework and weathered wood or even urban grit; a location photo shoot can provide a near unlimited variety of backdrops resulting in the most unique portrait photos. People often feel more comfortable in a location environment than the clinical feel of a studio, being able to interact with their surroundings in a more natural way, in turn producing photos that tell their story.
Creating the Look
The simplest form of location portrait photography is to go to a location and use the natural light to capture a variety of semi-candid images while you interact with the environment. A step on from this is to pick and choose areas of the location to strike poses in various outfits, manipulating the natural light and perhaps using flash units. A more advanced form of location portrait photography is lighting both you and the set and maybe dressing it with props to create totally unique conceptual portraits.
Inside or Out
Location portrait photography doesn’t just have to be outdoors. You could take advantage of features in your home and garden, and sometimes owners of buildings in your local area are happy to allow you to have a shoot on their premises. Outdoor locations can include such places as forests, fields, lakes, beaches etc. I’m happy to travel to locations around East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent and Surrey.
Where?
I conduct location shoots within a 20 mile radius of Crowborough. This covers areas of East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey and Kent including Tunbridge Wells, Wadhurst, Uckfield, Brighton, Tonbridge, East Grinstead, Forest Row, Crawley and Edenbridge. I’m happy to travel further for location shoots outisde of this radius, but a travel charge will apply.
